Knotts Berry Farm, CA–
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. As BGCA’s premier youth recognition program, Youth of the Year recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. Youth of the Year encourages Club members to reach their full potential by achieving academic success, leading healthy lifestyles and contributing to their communities. Youth of the Year honorees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.
Sarach was selected among 15 other Orange County Youth as the most outstanding Club youth in 2016.
Sarah joined the club 11 years ago as second grader attending the Via Positiva Branch in San Juan Capistrano. Sara is now a senior at Dana Hills High School and will be graduating in June. As a young member she had to deal with a difficult home life and found that the Club provided her with a safe haven. Taking advantage of the Clubs offerings, she has participated in a variety of activities that has positively shaped her life including: Sea Tech, PowerHour and the Keystone Leadership club. “The Club is my happy place.” She stated. “Without the Club and the caring staff members I am certain I wouldn’t be on the path to attend my dream school, San Francisco State University.”
“Sarah is the perfect example of what kind of young women and men the Boys & Girls Clubs help produce each and every year. We are so proud of not only Sarah, but all the other outstanding young people that were part of the Youth of the Year program and process.” said James Littlejohn, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley.
